The 1st overall pick in the 1984 NHL draft, Mario Lemieux spent his entire playing career with the Pittsburgh Penguins. On his 1st ever shot in the NHL, on his 1st ever shift, Mario scored his 1st goal. Mario scored 100 points to win the Calder Memorial Trophy as the NHL Rookie of the Year, and also became the first rookie ever to win the All-Star Game MVP. Mario led the Penguins to 2 Stanley Cup championships, and Canada to an Olympic Gold Medal, as well as to 2 World Cups of Hockey. He won 3 Hart Trophies as the NHL's Most Valuable Player, 6 Art Ross Trophies as the league's leading scorer and 2 Conn Smythe Trophies as playoff MVP. Plagued by chronic back pain and health issues, Mario had to retire in 1997 after battling Hodgkin's Lymphoma, and was inducted immediately into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1997. In 2000, Mario returned to the NHL, registering an assist in his first shift back 33 seconds into the game. He scored a goal and added 3 assists in his first game back.
