Carl Yastrzemski made his ML debut with the Boston Red Sox in 1961, as the heir apparent to the legendary Ted Williams in left field. For 23 years, Yaz wore his famous "#8" for the Red Sox, won the American League Triple Crown and was named the A.L.'s Most Valuable Player in 1967, being the last winner of the Triple Crown in the Major Leagues. His .326 batting average, 44 homeruns and 121 RBI's all led the American League. He was named the 1967 Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year that season. Carl Yastrzemsi played in 18 All-Star games and won 7 Gold Gloves during his 23 year tenure with Boston. In 1989, Yaz was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame.
