Al Arbour is the second winingest coach of all time with 782 career victories and 118 play-off wins. He began coaching in 1970 with the St. Louis Blues, and in 1973, Al took over the New York Islanders coaching duties, a position he held from 1973-1994, leading the Islanders to the playoffs 15 times during those years. He won the Stanley Cup 4 consecutive years with them, from 1979-1980 to 1982-1983. Many say he was the greatest coach of all-time. A solid defenseman during his NHL playing days, Al Arbour made his NHL debut in 1953 with the Detroit Red Wings. He then joined the Chicago Blackhawks in 1958 where he played until going to the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1961. In 1967 he joined the St. Louis Blues until he retired in 1971 as a player/coach with them. He was also the first ever coach of the expansion St. Louis blues hockey team that began playing in the NHL during the 1967 season. As a player, Al won 4 Stanley Cups with 3 different teams. As a rookie, he won his 1st Stanley Cup with Detroit, and he also won with Chicago and twice with Toronto. With his name on the Stanley Cup 8 times, Al was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1996.
